My wife recently discovered this restaurant in Cubao. Even though I’ve just heard about it, it turns out that the place is actually pretty popular. I’ve read on some articles that people really line up just to eat at Habanero Kitchen Bar in Araneta Center, Cubao. Good thing we went there on a Wednesday, the most chill day of the week, so we didn’t have to wait too long to get seated.

The place where Habanero is located actually looks pretty cool. It’s a chain of restaurants, cafe’s and bars. I’d wanna go back there some other time, but definitely not during the weekend. Just by looking at the place, it’s obvious that it’s gonna be difficult to find a parking spot when it gets too crowded.

Probably out of hunger(I drove for over an hour), I wasn’t in the mood to take photos and all I could think of was that I wanted to eat. That being said, I can at least share two photos from our experience.

The above photo shows what I ordered, which I already forgot what it’s called, and its price- sorry. It’s a beef steak, though, with scrambled egg and rice. If I’d try to remember, I think the price was somewhere around P400, and I gotta say they are pretty generous with their portion sizes. In the upper part of the photo is the Two-cheese pizza, and it’s easily comparable to our favorite four cheese pizza from Two Seasons Hotel in Boracay. Yes, it’s that good. And for a very reasonable price, too.

And since it’s not in the photo, of course I also forgot what my wife ordered, but I can totally remember that we ordered Spam Fries for our son. That kid is very picky so we have to go with the basic.

For our dessert, we ordered a Leche Flan, and this is where things got really interesting.

As they served our Leche Flan, the waiter quickly followed up with an explanation about its ‘concept’, which is good because I’d be totally dumbfounded if he didn’t. Yes, that thing in the above photo is a Leche Flan. Well, not the entirety of it.

According to the waiter, the concept is a bird’s nest, and I also forgot the whole reason why- really sorry. The nest that surrounds the ‘bird egg’ is a coffee caramel flavored cotton candy. And those small branches were- I don’t know, but it was edible, too, I think? The ‘egg’ is made of sugar- You can google how it’s made into that. And finally, the leche flan is supposed to be the ‘yolk’ inside the egg.

We let our son, Yaz, do the honors of “cracking the egg”.

The verdict? The leche flan was good, I mean really good. We left most of the sugar(egg) because it was just too sweet for us. And the coffee caramel-flavored ‘nest’ was perfect I didn’t leave a single strand behind.
